Welcome to the first joint CIPD-MIX Hackathon, Hacking HR to Build an Adaptability Advantage.

Over the next few months, you’ll have an opportunity to collaborate with other leading thinkers and practitioners from around the world while pursuing a shared goal:

How can we make our organizations more adaptable at their core? And how can HR become a true catalyst for proactive change in organizations?

We’ll pursue this goal by participating in a series of short sprints where we’ll share our thoughts, ideas, insights, and experiences. Ultimately, we’ll work together to develop and prototype a series of management hacks—bold yet highly actionable ideas for re-inventing processes such as resource allocation, change management, and talent management in ways that stand to make a real impact.

Orientation Tasks

The objective of the orientation phase is to develop a common understanding of what we mean by adaptability and why it is now more important than ever before. We will also clarify the goals for the hackathon while more fully explaining the hackathon process and what to expect.

For this orientation, you have three tasks:

TASK 1: Register for the Hackathon. To fully participate in the hackathon, including making contributions, commenting on the contributions of others, and receiving updates, you'll need to start by creating a MIX account. Create your account now. Once you've created your account, you should add your picture and other information to your profile so your fellow hackathon contributors can get to know you better. Edit your profile here.


TASK 2: Review the orientation blogs and videos below to learn more about what we mean by adaptability and why it matters.  We've also included an overview blog with more information on the hackathon process and the team that will work with you throughout this campaign. Once you’ve reviewed all of the materials, add your thoughts to the discussion questions on Gary Hamel's two blog posts.


TASK 3: Spread the word about the hackathon to others you think might be interested in joining. Feel free to share the hackathon "cheat sheet" to help explain what we'll be doing.


BONUS TASK: Answer the Quick MIX question. A Quick MIX is how we swarm a crucial question to generate as many ideas as possible as quickly as possible. Here's our Orientation Quick MIX question: What defines an adaptable organization?
