Hack the MIX Hackathon

New Definition: from Project to Community

By Alberto Blanco on February 23, 2022

A couple of years ago, the MIX was born as a project. Today, after all the contributions we have made together and all the interactions as fellow Mixers, I think it is safe for us to say that we have become something bigger: a community.

Then, my suggestion is to change our current formal definition of what we are. That is, from “an open innovation project aimed at reinventing management for the 21st century”, to “an open innovation community aimed at reinventing management for the 21st century”. I think this distinction portrays in a better way what we do and could help us spark some other new ideas (or angles) about what we want to accomplish now in the MIX 2.0.

We can even consider defining ourselves as a global community.

Hi Alberto,
As long as we're changing words, maybe we need to change the word "management". Maybe we're talking about changing the way we work in the 21st century.

Wow! Susan, I think you are indeed seeing with new eyes! In that case, we should change our name to WIX, too? :)

Or.....WIC
Now we need to light a candle :-)

Hi Alberto,

I like the idea, but I think we need to do more than change the name/definition. I think the next step for the MIX (this is a theme that I'm pulling from a lot of what's posted here) is to evolve into more of a true community. I'd really like to see more community functionality and nurturing to facilitate more open dialog outside of the formal hackathons and other content types we currently have. So, along with a modified charter, I think some modified structure would help as well.

Hi Sam,

I really like how you have complemented this idea. Yes, I agree with you that both a modified charter and a modified structure would allow us to uncover our true potential as a community. That´s the one-two combo that we need!

It is interesting to see how the key topics for this revamping are getting clearer as more people collaborate and share their ideas. In my opinion, another key topic would be to implement the ideas (hacks) we have built together and the ones that are about to come.

On the other hand, another charter modification that I want to bring to the table is the one about co-writing a new MIX manifesto. Restating my initial thesis, the MIX has born as a project and was launched along with a manifesto that set the tone and prepared the terrain of everything we have achieved as a group until today. Now, in the light of this version 2.0 of the MIX, I think we have a great opportunity to ponder what we have learned (or unlearned) and from that, co-write, as a full fletched community, what we want to achieve in the future as well as the trace we want to leave in the world as a whole. Please, let me know what you think.
